SMART Recovery(R) groups are a wonderful FREE non-clinical option for those dealing with addiction, mental illness, anger management, or another behavioral or emotional issue. SMART offers Recovery groups for individuals who are struggling personally, as well as Family & Friends groups for those affected by the struggles of a loved one.
All our SMART Recovery facilitators and group members speak very highly of this model, which is relatively new in CT but has a 25+ year history. SMART groups offer both peer support and skills building. They're facilitated groups that use check-ins, brainstormings and cross-talk to allow group members to validate and support one another, and they use structured worksheets and tools to teach self-management and other skills.
