Legislative Advocacy

We help inform our community members about pending legislation, work with legislators on new bills, testify, and provide advocacy training for stakeholders. During 2018-19, we provided a 2-day advocacy training, organized a regional meeting of behavioral health advocates to coordinate legislative agendas, and held 2 legislative forums. See the fact sheets below on the behavioral health parity bill and the peer support services bill that came from work in our region.

Big wins during the 2019 session include the Behavioral Health Parity Act and Tobacco 21, along with Public Act 19-191, An Act Concerning Opioid Use, which will implement new policies to curb opioid abuse.
